As a corporate customer of Lufthansa City Center, you can now significantly reduce theCO2 emissions caused by your business trips. In cooperation with the Lufthansa Group, Lufthansa City Center is the first business travel provider to offer so-called SAF packages. SAF stands for Sustainable Aviation Fuel and is the generic term for all aviation fuels that are produced without the use of fossil energy sources.
There are various production processes with different starting materials for sustainable aviation fuels. The SAF currently used by the Lufthansa Group is produced from biogenic residues, such as used cooking oils. The airline group has secured sustainable kerosene for a quarter of a billion US dollars in order to be able to meet the expected demand in the coming years. However, the quantity currently available on the global market is not sufficient to use large quantities in flight operations. The Lufthansa Group is therefore actively involved in numerous projects to promote the availability of SAF.
SAF is an important step on the way to climate-neutral air travel. Currently, the use of SAF reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil fuels. In order to become 100% climate-neutral, the production and delivery processes, which also generate CO₂ emissions, still need to be optimized.
